Neighborhood CDCs push for closer collaboration with next Cleveland mayor, city council
Community development corporations have launched a neighborhood platform to influence the next mayor’s agenda after the Nov. 2 election. They see an opportunity to not only influence a Kelley or Bibb administration, but also to help the city recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted city services, exacerbated disparities between residents, and wreaked havoc on local business districts.
Local farmers markets offer some relief in Cleveland’s food deserts
Many Northeast Ohio farmers’ markets not only stayed open last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, but also expanded access to Produce Perks, EBT and other nutrition assistance programs. Their aim is to help those in need while gaining customers at the same time.
Cousins who defied the Taliban sell clothes from abroad at Kamm’s Corners
Two cousins used to interpret for the U.S. Army in their native Kabul. Now they’re selling Asian and African clothing and housewares at Kamm’s Corners. The cousins opened Asia Star Clothing and Houseware at 17108 Lorain Ave., selling dresses, scarves, headgear, bracelets, carpets, flags, cups, flasks, blankets, clocks and more.
