Arts and culture groups say next mayor should champion the arts from city hall
When the nonprofits Assembly for the Arts and CAN Journal asked mayoral candidates in the primary if they would champion the arts at city hall, the response was unanimous: let’s do this thing. Now, the groups are pushing to make the arts a top issue in the Nov. 2 general election and hold the next mayor accountable for putting plans into action.
CPT opens live, in person summer season to take on racial equity
Cleveland Public Theatre, which normally does not run a summer season, made an exception this year in response to an exceptional year of theaters left dark because of a global pandemic. CPT’s Outdoor Stage performances will run July 1 through August 7, with more than ten offerings of free live theatre, music, poetry and more, all produced and performed by local artists on stages protected by tents.
New album from Twelve Literary Arts brings together musicians and poets in Cleveland
Twelve Literary Arts will release its new album “In Search of The Land” on June 19 (Juneteenth). The album brought together Cleveland artists who hadn’t worked together before, giving them an opportunity to collaborate in a unique setting and share their talents with a larger audience. Each of the songs and poems in the collection relate to the search for freedom and opportunity in Cleveland.
Twelve Literary Arts plays instrumental role in development of E. 66th St. project
The nonprofit organization led by Daniel Gray-Kontar has worked with adult and youth residents in Midtown and Hough to create a vision for a Black Avenue in Cleveland.
