In a vacant building, Latinx artists see a canvas ready to bloom

A new project from Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center will brighten an empty building in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood. The boarded-up Weber building at 3140 W. 25th St. will soon be adorned with three new murals by Latinx artists Gilberto Rivera, Bruno Casiano and Gabriel Mercano, improving the look of the building while giving space to marginalized voices.

New album from Twelve Literary Arts brings together musicians and poets in Cleveland

Twelve Literary Arts will release its new album “In Search of The Land” on June 19 (Juneteenth). The album brought together Cleveland artists who hadn’t worked together before, giving them an opportunity to collaborate in a unique setting and share their talents with a larger audience. Each of the songs and poems in the collection relate to the search for freedom and opportunity in Cleveland.

Zygote Press launches new artist-in-residency program for BIPOC artists

Zygote Press, a nonprofit that offers a workspace for emerging and established printmakers and educational programs for the community, has launched a new paid residency for local Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists. The goal of the program, which is called BIPOC AIR (artist-in-residence), is to provide five artists from Northeast Ohio the opportunity to learn a variety of print techniques while engaging with a community of fellow artists.

As NFL Draft gets underway, the city finally releases its game plan for large summer events

The NFL Draft is set to bring thousands of people downtown from April 29-May 1, drawing crowds despite the rainy, cold spring weather. Yet at the same time, right now it’s impossible to organize a simple block party in the city of Cleveland. That will soon change, as the city announced Thursday, April 29th that it will begin permitting large outdoor events.

Artist works to breathe life into Hildebrandt Building

Nestled across the courtyard of the Hildebrandt Building, 3619 Walton Ave. is Svona Studio, a fine arts space set inside one of Cleveland’s most historic buildings. Shelly Svonavec’s Studio is bright and chic, but hidden behind strategically-placed curtains and around unsuspecting corners are glimpses into the Hildebrandt building’s past.
