Elizabeth Emery is host and producer of the female athlete podcast, Hear Her Sports. Through the podcast, a bi-weekly newsletter, and her visual art, she’s long been telling women’s sports stories and now looks forward to pursuing stories about her local Cleveland community by writing for The Land’s Community Journalism Program.
First Tee – Cleveland opened the new Woodworth Activity Center at Cleveland Metroparks’ Washington Golf Course, offering an opportunity to expand current programming and even develop new offerings for Northeast Ohio youth ages 6-18.

Urban Squash Cleveland, in Ohio City, is teaching kids a new sport while giving them a better chance to excel in all facets of life. “It’s all about giving kids an opportunity. And all of this is just in service of that. You can change one kid’s life a whole lot.”
Students come to Promise Academy after they’ve already tried traditional high schools. Staff create individual learning plans to help students graduate.
Americans Making Immigrants Safe (AMIS) is a group helping asylum seekers in Cleveland get settled. The all-volunteer non-profit raises money for legal fees, secure work permits, find housing and more.
