Garrett Square project brings investment, senior housing to Glenville

“Not only is this a new residential and affordable experience for our seniors, they will be connected to supportive and community-based services.”

In late July, a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorated one of the first new construction projects on Superior Avenue in Glenville in years.

The new Garrett Square Apartment Complex, at 12417 Superior Ave., is a senior living complex, a 49-unit apartment complex exclusively available to seniors age 55 and older. The building is equipped with one and two bedroom units complete with appliances. There is a laundry room on each floor, a community room with a kitchen and a fitness center. The complex is already 100-percent occupied, developers announced during the ceremony.

The developer, Volker, Inc worked with the Famicos Foundation, to put the project together. Famicos is a community development nonprofit corporation dedicated to affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization. Once complete, the project is estimated to cost $16.7 million. It was supported by funding from the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. KeyBank provided the equity syndication and debt, while Marous Construction served as the contractor.

The ribbon-cutting was attended by a variety of local officials, including Cleveland Councilman Kevin Conwell and Jeffrey Patterson, CEO of the Cuyahoga County Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Zack Reed, the city’s business development administrator, stated “This project shows what’s possible when public and private partners come together with a shared purpose to build stronger, more inclusive communities.”

“Not only is this a new residential and affordable experience for our seniors, they will be connected to supportive and community-based services through Famicos as the management agent in a collaborative partnership with the St. Martin De Porres Senior Center of Cleveland to provide additional health, wellness, and socialization services,”Conwell said in a statement.

Marous Brothers Construction served as the contractor for this project.  “Not only is this a new residential and affordable experience for our seniors, they will be connected to supportive and community-based services through Famicos as the management agent in a collaborative partnership with the St. Martin De Porres Senior Center of Cleveland to provide additional health, wellness, and socialization services,” said Councilman Kevin Conwell.
