Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? No

What is your educational background

I hold a B.A. in Political Science from Kent State University and earned my J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School.

What is your occupation?

I’m an attorney and the owner/operator of a legal education company.

Do you have any previous experience as an elected official?

While I have not previously held elected office, I have been deeply involved in the Lakewood community. I was recently appointed to the Lakewood Citizens Advisory Committee by Mayor Meghan George. After attorney Jason Shachner’s departure from City Council, I applied to fill his unexpired term and was interviewed by City Council for the vacancy. The seat I am now running for is that same unexpired term. With my legal background, experience in local policy, and commitment to the community, I am well qualified to serve Lakewood residents effectively.

Why are you seeking office?

I am running for Lakewood City Council Ward 2 because I believe government works best when it is open, inclusive, and responsive to the people it serves. Lakewood has always been a progressive community, and I want to carry that spirit forward by fighting for strong public schools, fair and affordable housing, pedestrian safety, and relief from rising property taxes that are squeezing working families and seniors.

I believe every resident deserves a voice in shaping our future, whether they are long time homeowners, renters, young families, or new Americans. That means protecting public services, supporting labor, and making sure our city continues to be a place where diversity is embraced and opportunity is available to all.

I am proud to be endorsed by the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 25. These endorsements show that I am ready to work with both labor and public safety to build a stronger, safer, and more equitable Lakewood.

On council, I will be a proactive and accessible representative, holding regular town halls, working with community partners, and standing up for policies that strengthen equity, transparency, and accountability. My goal is simple: to help build a Lakewood that listens, includes, and moves forward together.

What do you think the single most pressing issue facing city council is?

The most pressing issue facing city council is making sure Lakewood remains affordable and livable for everyone. Rising property taxes, housing costs, and the state’s failure to fully fund public schools are putting real pressure on families, seniors, and longtime residents. At the same time, we have to ensure our city services, schools, and public safety are strong and fully supported.

That means council has to balance these challenges by pushing for sensible tax relief, advocating for fair state support, and making smart investments in our community. I am proud to be endorsed by the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council, which shows my commitment to working families and economic opportunity, and by FOP Lodge 25, which reflects my support for public safety and the officers who keep our community secure. Together, these endorsements highlight that I am ready to lead on both economic and public safety issues, and to make sure Lakewood works for everyone.

What differentiates you from other candidates?

What makes me different is that I bring both professional experience and lived experience to this race. As an attorney, I know how to navigate complex issues and advocate effectively for the people I represent.

I’m also deeply rooted in this community. I’ve been both a homeowner and a renter in Lakewood, so I understand firsthand the challenges of rising property taxes, housing affordability, and making sure our neighborhoods stay livable for everyone. I’m also a proud product of Ohio public schools, and I carry with me the lessons of teachers who believed in me and helped me get where I am today.

I believe government should work for everyday people. I want to keep our schools open, fight for fair tax relief so families and seniors can stay in their homes, and make sure City Council is transparent, accessible, and accountable.

Please summarize your campaign platform.

My campaign is about building a Lakewood that is fair, inclusive, and forward-looking. I’m focused on three core priorities:

Strong Public Schools – I will fight to keep all of our schools open and make sure every child has access to the same opportunities I had as a product of Ohio public schools. Schools are at the heart of what makes Lakewood a connected and family-friendly community.

Fair Property Tax Relief and Affordable Housing – Property taxes are rising faster than wages, putting pressure on seniors, working families, and longtime residents. I will push for sensible tax relief, so no one is priced out of their home, and work to expand affordable housing options that keep Lakewood accessible to all.

Transparency and Accessibility in City Government – I will hold regular town halls, meet with residents, and ensure City Council is open and accountable. People deserve leaders who listen, explain decisions clearly, and are available when issues arise.

At the end of the day, my platform is simple: keep Lakewood strong, make it more affordable, and ensure every resident feels seen, heard, and valued.

What past experiences indicate that you’ll succeed as a councilperson?

My experiences have given me the skills and endurance to serve Lakewood effectively. I grew up attending Ohio public schools, which gave me a firsthand understanding of the importance of strong, equitable education for every child. I earned a degree in political science and went on to law school, where I worked hard and learned to tackle complex legal and policy challenges. As an attorney, I have developed the ability to analyze problems, advocate for solutions, and understand the details of government and community regulations.

Outside of work, I have tested my limits through ultramarathons, completing 50- and 100-mile races. Those experiences taught me perseverance, long-term planning, and the determination needed to see a difficult journey through to the finish. These are qualities I bring to public service. Combined with my deep roots in Lakewood as both a renter and a homeowner, these experiences give me the perspective, endurance, and commitment to serve all residents and advance a more inclusive, equitable community.

Is there anything else voters should know about you?

I am committed to a Lakewood where everyone has a voice and a fair shot. My campaign is fully grassroots, powered by neighbors who care about equity, inclusion, and accountable leadership. I am ready to bring that same energy and commitment to the City Council to make sure every resident is heard and our city thrives. You can learn more at www.KyleForLakewood.com
