An estimated 28% of American healthcare workers said they will “wait and see” before getting the vaccine, despite working on the frontlines. While this hesitancy rate is slightly lower than that of non-healthcare essential workers, it’s significant because 80% of Americans said they would seek advice from healthcare providers when deciding whether or not to get vaccinated.
Ohio City Inc. and Tremont West Development Corporation have teamed up to form the Near West Land Trust with a mission to increase permanent, affordable housing in the midst of a hot housing market. The two nonprofit community development groups have plans to build 40 new, single-family homes on vacant lots scattered throughout Ohio City, Clark-Fulton and Tremont.
The pandemic has tested the strength of the community, but the care shown by many Clevelanders who came to the aid of their neighbors has been a bright spot. In truth, the foot soldiers of this hyper local care giving have been working tirelessly and away from the spotlight for years.
The revelation last spring that Cleveland had been secreting its recyclables to a landfill for months may have finally met its match: Groups of residents on the city’s near west side are starting their own, albeit much smaller, recycling program.
Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, calling these “not normal” times, opened the 12th city-run Sustainability Summit from his desktop computer rather than the podium of Public Auditorium. The mayor, who initiated the annual event in 2009 and has long insisted the formation of his Sustainability Office isn’t about the environment so much as a focus on green jobs, called on the environmental community to embrace social equity.
