Want information on how the city is spending taxpayer money? Looking for a police policy or court record? All you have to do is know how to ask. The Northeast Ohio Solutions Journalism Collaborative has teamed up with the Cleveland Documenters to create a new, free course.
The Cuyahoga River is famous for being the “crooked river” — not for its whitewater. Yet when a massive freighter the size of the Terminal Tower comes by, it quickly becomes a different experience. At a press conference, groups involved with the Share the River initiative shared information with the public about how to stay safe and have fun.
For years, advocacy groups have requested public comment at Cleveland City Council meetings and a more straight-forward process for commenting at Council committee meetings. City Council seems closer to adopting public comment than ever before, but we need to keep paying attention and pushing them to adopt a public comment policy that is inclusive, transparent, and fair.
A new project from Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center will brighten an empty building in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood. The boarded-up Weber building at 3140 W. 25th St. will soon be adorned with three new murals by Latinx artists Gilberto Rivera, Bruno Casiano and Gabriel Mercano, improving the look of the building while giving space to marginalized voices.
After 30 years of promoting the arts and culture of Cleveland’s Latino community, the Julia De Burgos Cultural Arts Center now has a permanent home on Archwood Ave. in Cleveland. The center spent many years moving from one location to another until an opportunity came up to share space with Archwood United Church of Christ at 2800 Archwood.
A couple from Ethiopia provides Cleveland with home health workers, chicken fingers and apartments, including the forthcoming Addis View in Hough.
A group of industry leaders are flipping the script on Cleveland’s cliched “burning river” and “mistake on the lake” narratives. They’re angling to make Cleveland the capital of clean water, the place where the worst water pollution problems facing the country are solved.
Beginning at the eastern edge of Zone Recreation Center and threading through Ohio City before connecting to the Centennial Lake Link Trail, the $6 million Red line Greenway connects the near west side to downtown Cleveland while offering views of industry, nature and the city along the way.
