Ohio City Inc. and Tremont West Development Corporation have teamed up to form the Near West Land Trust with a mission to increase permanent, affordable housing in the midst of a hot housing market. The two nonprofit community development groups have plans to build 40 new, single-family homes on vacant lots scattered throughout Ohio City, Clark-Fulton and Tremont.
Kate’s Fish, a West Side Market staple for almost 20 years, has ambitious new plans to expand both inside the market and throughout the Cleveland area.

Change doesn’t happen quickly at Cleveland’s West Side Market, where vendors and city officials have been wrangling for years about whether the city-run institution should be overseen by a dedicated nonprofit. Yet during the Covid-19 crisis, the city and vendors came together quickly to roll out curbside pickup, and now it may offer a model for moving forward as the market seeks to adjust to this new reality.
