Going green: Waterloo Arts to install new green roof and alleyway

Waterloo Arts, a nonprofit organization that provides arts programming and education in the Collinwood neighborhood, is installing a green roof on its building thanks to a green infrastructure grant from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD). The project will not only fix the organization’s leaky roof, but it will also divert tens of thousands of gallons of rainwater from the storm sewers every year.

Local gardeners find inspiration and show off their green thumbs at GardenWalk Cleveland

Masses of tall, charming coneflowers and low, dainty larkspur blooms fill Sue Borton’s Collinwood front yard like a sea of vibrant, purple hues, with a teak dragon statue nestled within it all. It took more than 25 years for Borton to transform her garden from a cluster of six flowers into the luscious, self-sufficient garden it is today. “I’ve just always loved plants,” she said. “The people that [garden] love it, and our street has a lot of it.”

Sculpture Center show by Black artists helps Cleveland remember ‘forgotten’ neighborhoods

Artist Shani Richards is part of a movement to revitalize the Sidaway Bridge. With her work in “Crossroads: Still We Rise,” a new exhibition at The Sculpture Center in Cleveland, she hopes to draw new attention to the structure. “Crossroads,” the first in a series of related exhibitions, features 11 other artists, each of whom also hopes to unveil a forgotten corner of Cleveland and push for its revival.
