On Saturday, July 13th, a team from the US EPA will test soil samples at the Coit Road Farmers Market from 10mAM-1 PM. The Market is located at 15000 Woodworth Rd, near East 152nd and Noble Rd in East Cleveland. Cuyahoga County residents are invited to bring soil samples from yards, gardens, recreation areas, or vacant lots to be tested on-site at no cost. Testing takes about 5 minutes. Testing will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Households can bring up to 5 samples. EPA staff will have information on improving garden or play area safety. All results are confidential. Here’s how to prepare a sample for testing. Step 1: Identify an area of interest (garden, play area, nearby vacant lots) for your soil sample. Step 2: Collect Soil - For a large area, collect soil from 5-10 random spots in that area and combine in a clean container. For a small area, collect soil from 3 random spots. The BorderLight Theatre Festival—taking place July 24-27, 2024 at Playhouse Square—has unveiled its full lineup with the announcement of its Fringe program at BorderLightCLE.org/2024festival/ During its four-day run, this year’s festival will shine a spotlight on 43 Fringe shows, five international shows, and host 8 workshops, all of which represent artists from seven states and five countries. Tickets go on sale Thursday, June 6th at 10:00 am ET. Ticket prices range from $12-$35, with 13 shows free and open to the public. Once on sale, tickets can be purchased online and by telephone (Fringe Shows: 216.356.6485 | International and Comedy Shows: 216.241.6000). Tickets can also be purchased in person July 24-27th at the Playhouse Square Box Office located in the KeyBank State Theatre Lobby and at BorderLight’s Main Box Office, which will be located at The City Club of Cleveland. Festival Guides will be available by July 1 at various coffee houses, restaurants, and businesses throughout downtown Cleveland and surrounding neighborhoods. Through dollars from the The Garden Club of Cleveland, Food Strong is teaming up with Refresh Collective for an unforgettable camp experience like no other. Housed at our urban farm at the historic Coit Road Farmers' Market, we will be learning all about agriculture, culinary arts, nutrition, and entrepreneurship. Boom's Pizza will even be feeding us lunch and leading our campers through making pizza right in our onsite pizza oven! In Week 2, campers will be working with Refresh Collective teachers to make their own hip hop music around refreshing their communities through FRESH foods. This camp is free and for people ages 12 to 17.
