Apply now for The Land’s Lakewood Community Journalism program

Join the latest cohort of Community Journalists helping to report on Lakewood for The Land!

Do you want to be a Community Journalist? Your opportunity is now.

During this free, 12-week program, you’ll learn to write stories about issues impacting Lakewood. All students receive training through weekly classes on Zoom, mentoring from a professional journalist and a $300 stipend when they publish their first article. After students complete the program, they join a network of community journalists with opportunities for networking and further publication.

Classes begin July 14 and the Zoom sessions will continue meeting through Aug. 18. Classes are 90 minutes, running from 6:30 p.m. through 8 p.m. Mentorship groups then meet for the next six weeks.

Classes will meet July 14, July 21, July 28, August 4, August 11, and August 18.

Since late 2021, The Land has been educating Greater Clevelanders on how to report on their neighborhoods. We’ve educated more than 100 students and published more than 150 articles by Community Journalism graduates. Attendees learn the basics of how to be a journalist, what it means to be a community reporter and hone their media literacy skills. They work on stories throughout the course, with the goal of publishing on The Land. The resulting stories provide valuable community news and give residents a voice in how their cities and neighborhoods are discussed in the media.
