If the Cleveland Orchestra has seemed a little more welcoming of late, you’re not hearing or seeing things. You’re noticing the work of Jejuana Brown, the group’s director of inclusion and community relations.
“It’s not about how you look. It’s about what’s inside you and the difference you can make. That’s what this project is all about: taking pictures that speak for you.”
Each of the five films in the series, which began Sept. 14, at the Cleveland Museum of Art includes a live component, some combination of artists on hand contributing everything from sound effects to full orchestral scores. The festival finale even features a rock band.
“We just want people to get in there and have fun for 90 minutes,” said Sammy DeLeon, the bandleader and timbales master. “It’s all about having fun and putting a smile on people’s faces.”
