Cuyahoga County announces $4m in CARES Act relief funding for arts and culture sector

Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish announced at a press conference Fri. Oct. 16 that $4 million in funding will be made available to the county’s arts and culture sector through the CARES Act. Two-thirds of the funding ($2.7 million) will be distributed to arts and culture organizations through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, and 1/3 ($1.3 million) will be distributed to individual artists and for-profit performing arts venues and artists through Arts Cleveland.

Talk about a romantic story: A few years ago, Chris Allen and his sister Molly Allen took classes at the Espresso Academy in Florence, Italy, and they soon fell in love with coffee roasting. They came back to Cleveland and launched Ready Set! Coffee a year ago, offering free same-day delivery of locally-roasted beans to customers and wholesale clients like the Rock Hall.

Miles Hackney has lived in the Lee-Harvard neighborhood for more than 50 years. The brick and vinyl-sided colonial on the city’s east side was new when he bought it in 1968, and so was the neighborhood. Historically known as Cleveland’s “Black suburb in the city,” Lee-Harvard was a place of opportunity where Black people could afford to buy homes and raise their families in a good neighborhood.
