Voting in the 2026 Midterms is now completed and Ohioans are waiting to learn who will be their next governor, U.S. Senator, and voters in Cuyahoga County are waiting to learn the fates of several levies. We’re also tracking local issues here at The Land. All of the results will updated below.

The nation is also deciding control of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House. Democrats must flip four seats in the Senate and three seats in the House to wrest control of the chambers from Republicans. Control of Congress would give Democrats a way to push back against President Donald Trump’s agenda during the final two years of his term. The battle for control is playing out mostly in states and districts Trump previously won by wide margins, like Ohio.

Democrats have homed in on Trump’s poor approval rating, public dissatisfaction with the war in Iran and affordability concerns. Republicans have focused on social issues, while Trump has made himself the central character of the midterms.

Election Day voting appears to go smoothly

There were relatively few hiccups both in Cuyahoga County and across the nation on Election Day. Our network of Community Journalists and reporters noted very few incidents outside of some confusion over sign placement and a few problems with machines. That echoes a similar pattern nationwide.

Here’s our friends at the Associated Press. “Millions of Americans had already cast their ballots before Tuesday, with early voting turnout surpassing the last midterm in 2022. In contrast to the president’s continued rhetoric about election cheating, voting so far has unfolded with relatively few problems.

“By afternoon on Election Day, the biggest issues affecting voting were weather-related, with flooding in Florida and parts of the Southwest prompting changes to polling locations and other emergency measures. A problem with ballot scanners also was delaying vote counting — though voting was able to continue — in New York’s suburban Westchester County, part of which is in a U.S. House district with a competitive race.”
