Mandy Kraynak and Lee Chilcote win Cleveland Press Club awards

The Land’s founder and senior reporter Lee Chilcote and Report for America corps member Mandy Kraynak both received first-place awards at the Press Club of Cleveland’s All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards ceremony on Friday.

Report for America corps member Mandy Kraynak and The Land’s founder, Lee Chilcote, both received first-place awards at the Press Club of Cleveland’s All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards at the House of Blues on Friday, June 2.

On Friday June 2, 2023 the Press Club of Cleveland hosted its annual All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards at the House of Blues in Downtown Cleveland. The Land’s staff was in attendance as journalists and media organizations from across the state were recognized for their work.

In the Public Service category for Non-Daily Newspapers, Mandy Kraynak took home a first-place win for her article on the cost burdens of using public transit for some residents.

Lee Chilcote won first place for Analysis in Digital Media for his work concerning the closure of Dave’s Market in Collinwood.

The Land also extends congratulations to Grant Segall who was honored with the Best in Ohio: Freelance Writer first-place award. Grant’s work in The Land and Freshwater Cleveland was cited as criteria for this award. Two other journalists who have been published with The Land, Christina Easter and Jonathan Beard, also won honors for their work with the student newspaper the Tri-C Voice.
