Patrick Kearns

Patrick Kearns started as the executive director of the Refugee Response in late 2016. Prior to this, Patrick worked in Southeast Asia for 14 years. This included two years in Umphium Mai refugee camp on the Thai-Myanmar border where he founded a school for young adults. He then founded a Thai Foundation for stateless youth, Youth Connect, which opened and ran an award-winning social enterprise hotel. In 2014, he was a recipient of the Unsung Heroes of Compassion Award presented by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and holds an MPA from Ohio University and an MSA in Emergency and Crisis Management from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

More than 1,000 Afghans have settled in Cleveland after fleeing the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. Only temporary protections are in place to allow the refugees to stay in the U.S., where many have built lives.
