Last month, Cleveland Council on World Affairs (CCWA) invited The Land to speak with a delegation of leaders from the nation of Moldova. The group of civic leaders was on a multi-city tour learning about economic development and sustainability and how the press covers these topics. These visitors were invited to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.
The six leaders, accompanied by two translators, met with Jeff Kipp, acting executive director of The Land, at the CCWA offices. The group included urban planners, government officials, a chief architect, a nonprofit leader, and a member of the media. After offering an overview of The Land and how it operates within Cleveland’s news ecosystem, Kipp addressed local challenges and how the organization’s professional journalists and freelance community journalists cover these issues.
The international guests drew comparisons between some of their local issues and what they have learned about the United States during their three-week visit. Topics of interest included implementing sustainability practices, addressing crime and poverty issues, dealing with vacant and abandoned properties, and the relationship between city leaders and the press.
The Land was honored to participate in this International Visitor Leadership Program. To learn more about this and other efforts by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, visit www.ccwa.org.
