One of Cleveland’s own returns home! Here is this weeks #movienerdreport!

It is the last Wednesday of the month so that means it’s time for WTF Wednesday! The series is moving over to the Cedar Lee Theatre (2163 Lee Rd, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118), and tonight’s feature is John Waters’ “Polyester.” If you’ve never seen this film, at the time of its original it came out in  what Waters dubbed “Odorama.” So the first 100 attendees will receive one of the Odorama cards so you can smell along while the film plays. The film starts at 7:30 p.m.

This Saturday at 6 p.m. is a unique event in which Cleveland’s own David Wain will return home for a 25th Anniversary screening of his cult classic “Wet Hot American Summer.”  The film features many familiar faces: Janeane Garofalo, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper and Elizabeth Banks, among many others.  The event is a collaboration with the Cleveland International Film Festival’s Young Professionals Board and the Greater Cleveland Film Commission’s Associate Board. There will be food trucks, s’mores, a costume contest, and a Q&A with David Wain! It will be held at Camp Cheerful in Strongsville (15000 Cheerful Ln, Strongsville, OH 44136) and tickets can be purchased at this link

This weekend there are two wide releases hitting local screens and the first one is “Supergirl.” Milly Alcock, who briefly appeared at the end of last year’s “Superman,” plays the titular role and the cast includes Jason Momoa, as well as an extended appearance from the Man of Steel, David Corenswet. It comes from director Craig Gillespie who has helmed such films as “Lars and the Real Girl,” “I, Tonya,” and “Dumb Money.”

Johnny Knoxville and his loveable band of stunt performers including Steve-O and Wee Man return for “Jackass: Best and Last.” It is the fifth and supposedly last film in the franchise.

First up is a film often cited as one of best films ever made about the art of filmmaking  in Federico Fellini’s “8 ½.”

They also will be playing a film that is often cited as one of the best concert films ever in Jonathan Demme’s “Stop Making Sense.” This film presents a high energy performance from Talking Heads, I dare you not to dance or at least tap your feet during this film.

Speaking of Talking Heads, they will also be showing frontman David Byrne’s feature directorial effort “True Stories.” In the film a small but growing Texas town celebrates its sesquicentennial and converges on a local parade and talent show.

They also will be presenting one of the most acclaimed films of the last 10 years in “Portrait of a Lady on Fire.” The romantic film tells the story of a painter who is commissioned to do the wedding portrait of another woman without her knowing.

They also will present screenings on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of “Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby.” The film which stars Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Sasha Baron Corbin is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Shake and Bake!

Happy 12th Anniversary to you,  Nightlight!!
